On 23 December 2023, a delegation from the Shanxi Provincial Political Association, led by Mr Yang of the Shanxi Provincial Council, landed in Rio de Janeiro to take part in an event held at the hall of the Brazilian Association for Chinese Cultural Exchange. The meeting was attended by the Consul General of China, Mr Wang Youyu, the President of the Brazilian Chinese Friendship Association, Henrique Couto da Nóbrega, and the President of the Brazilian Chinese Cultural Exchange Association, Mr Shangguan Feng.
During the event, Mr Yang emphasised the importance of local cooperation as a crucial element of bilateral relations between China and Brazil. The delegation held in-depth exchanges with various departments of the Paraíba State Government, discussing topics covering education, the economy, trade and technology.
Affirming the ongoing commitment, the representative of Shaanxi province emphasised the intention to expand friendly exchanges with Brazil, focusing on open development to garner even more popular support.
The Chinese Consul General, Mr Wang Weiyu, emphasised that the presence of the delegation clearly demonstrated the political position and intentions of Shaanxi province in coordinating efforts to promote actions and discussions on exchanges and economic development.
For his part, Mr Henrique Nóbrega, President of the Brazilian Chinese Friendship Association, shared the association's significant achievements in promoting friendship between Brazil and China over the years. He expressed the hope of expanding this co-operation to include Shaanxi Province, pointing out that activities such as delegation visits contribute to mutual understanding, the establishment of trust and the development of solid friendships.
Mr Shangguan Jianfeng, President of the Brazilian Chinese Cultural Exchange Association, highlighted the association's more than 20 years of work in Rio de Janeiro, uniting the Chinese community in both countries. He emphasised the ongoing commitment to spreading Chinese culture and strengthening the bonds of friendship between China and Brazil. The arrival of the delegation, according to Jianfeng, opens up a broader channel of communication and cooperation between Rio de Janeiro and Shaanxi.
The expatriate representatives expressed the hope of further strengthening ties with all sectors of Shaanxi Province, taking advantage of the community's extensive contacts to boost cooperation and exchanges of trade and culture between Brazil and Shaanxi Province, thus contributing to modernisation with a Chinese touch through practical actions.
After the meeting, Li Xiaojing, a member of the delegation and president of the Xianyang Municipal Association, presented the participants with special products from Shaanxi, strengthening the cultural and commercial ties between the regions.
