We were delighted to take part, at the invitation of the Management Committee of the New Frontline Area of the Pilot Free Trade Zone (Shanghai), China, in the global presentation event of the International Data Economy Industrial Park.
The event took place on 15 April 2024 at the Hilton Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The event was attended by the President of the Association, Mr Henrique da Nóbrega, the Secretary General, Mr Léo Farias and the Treasurer, Mr Leonardo Rocha.
Approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "Special Area") is established south of the Dazhihe River, east of Jinhui Port and south of Xiaoyangshan Island and Pudong International Airport, with a planned area of 873 square kilometres. Following the principle of "overall planning and step-by-step implementation", the initial parts include Nanhui New Town, Lin-gang Equipment Industrial Zone, Xiaoyangshan Islands and the area south of Pudong International Airport.
Building on the openness and innovation measures of the pilot free trade zone, it will implement openness policies and systems that enhance international market competitiveness and increase the stress test of the open economy. The aim is to facilitate investments and operations, guarantee connections between the Special Area and abroad, allow the free practice of personnel and establish a rapid flow of information and movement of goods, simplify the flow of capital and provide a highly open environment.
In alignment with the general requirements and development objectives of advancing comprehensive, high-level international engagement at a deeper level, in broader sectors and with greater intensity, the following objectives will be pursued:
- By 2025, a mature framework for the liberalisation and facilitation of investment and trade will be established, along with the creation of several highly open functional platforms and the attraction of world-class companies. This will significantly boost regional innovation, competitiveness, economic strength and total output;
- By 2035, a specialised economic zone with substantial influence and competitiveness in the international market will have been established, characterised by well-established institutions and a central role in the allocation of high-quality global resources and factors. This Special Area will serve as a crucial global resource and factor. This Special Area will serve as a crucial conduit for China's deeper integration into the global economy.
