The launch ceremony for the Portuguese edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping's book on poverty alleviation "Up and Out of Poverty" was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Tuesday.
More than 300 representatives from China and Brazil attended the launch ceremony and a subsequent seminar on state governance.
Marcio Pochmann, president of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, pointed out that the book makes a concrete contribution to the fight against poverty and offers an experience that can be a reference for the world.
Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, a Brazilian professor of international law, said that "the publication of this book in Brazil brings to Brazil the possibility of understanding how Chinese President Xi Jinping, when he was a leader in a small town in Fujian Province, worked with the people there to find solutions to alleviate poverty in that region."
"It's very interesting, because I think this book brings a lot of experiences and wisdom that can inspire a lot of other countries, including Brazil, which face a similar situation of poverty."
"The importance of this book is a milestone for us to reflect on the problems of poverty that we still have to face today," said Henrique Nóbrega, president of the Brazil-China Friendship Association.
Emphasising that China is a good example for the world in reducing poverty, Nóbrega said that Brazil can mirror China's policies, and can exchange experiences or technologies with China, so that it can also implement its own policies and overcome poverty.
Entitled "Up and Out of Poverty", the book is made up of Xi's speeches and articles, as well as photos, from 1988 to 1990, when he was Party chief of Ningde City, in Fujian province in eastern China. The book has already been published in nine foreign languages around the world.
