On 15 May, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Rio de Janeiro invited the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association to take part in a lecture on Persist in the One China Principle, Promote Sino-Brazilian Friendship.
The event was organised by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China together with the Brazil-China Peaceful Reunification Association and the China Peaceful Reunification Association of Rio de Janeiro.
Agenda:
1. Speeches by representatives of Chinese community associations;
2. Speeches by the representatives of the Brazilian guests;
3. Speech by Consul General Mrs Tian Min.
The event was attended by around 40 people, representatives of the Rio State Assembly, the State Government, the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association, BrasilMais, including the heads of Chinese friendship associations, academics, heads of overseas Chinese groups and representatives of news organisations.
The consul, Mr Tian Min, said in his speech that the one-China principle is the political basis for establishing and developing diplomatic relations between China and countries around the world, including Brazil. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Brazil has always adhered to the original intention of the two countries to establish diplomatic relations and has firmly followed the one-China principle. China and Brazil have a long tradition of mutual support, and have established an important political basis for bilateral relations to continue to develop in a healthy and steady manner.
Mr Tian emphasised that resolving the Taiwan issue and achieving the complete reunification of China are the common aspirations of all Chinese children. It is the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation.
Brazilian guests affirmed that they respect the principle of one China and firmly support China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Supporting the great cause of China's reunification is the cornerstone of the healthy development of relations between Brazil and China. The two sides should seize the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen friendship and strengthen co-operation to bring greater welfare to the two peoples.
