On 4 April 2025, a delegation from the People's Assembly of Jiangsu Province, led by deputy permanent director Mr Fan Jinlong, met with the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association and local personalities in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting aimed to explore new areas of co-operation between Jiangsu and Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Fan Jinlong pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, bilateral trade has developed rapidly. Last year, Jiangsu accounted for 13% of the total trade volume between the two countries. He emphasised that interactions are not limited to the economic field, but also encompass education and culture, and expressed the desire to continue contributing to bilateral relations on the basis of previous successes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Shangguan Jianfeng, president of the Chinese Cultural Exchange Association in Brazil, welcomed the delegation and pointed out that Jiangsu, known as the \"Land of Fish and Rice\" and for its rich cultural heritage, maintains frequent economic cooperation and cultural exchanges with Brazil. He believes that this visit will inject new impetus into collaboration between the two regions and said that the association will continue to serve as a bridge, helping Chinese in Brazil to integrate into local society and contribute to the development of their homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Henrique da N\u00f3brega, president of the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association, mentioned that the organisation has been dedicated to strengthening bilateral relations through cultural, educational, technological and commercial exchanges. He pointed out that Jiangsu, with its rich history and dynamic economy, is a long-awaited co-operation partner for Brazil, and expressed the wish for the association to participate more actively in collaborations with universities, hospitals and research institutes in Jiangsu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Evandro Carvalho, Professor of International Law at the Get\u00falio Vargas Foundation (FGV), shared that China is Brazil's most important trading partner and that there is enormous potential for cooperation between the two countries in the area of energy transition. He also emphasised the pragmatic collaboration between China and Brazil in multilateral mechanisms such as BRICS and the G20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Mr Wang Weiyu, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Rio de Janeiro, said that the visit of the Jiangsu delegation reflects the province's strategic vision and commitment to promoting high-quality development and expanding outward opening. He encouraged the Chinese community in Rio to capitalise on its unique advantages to further contribute to Jiangsu's economic and social development and international exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During their stay in Brazil, the Jiangsu delegation visited the states of S\u00e3o Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, reaching cooperation intentions in areas such as road construction with the local governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A delegation from the Jiangsu People's Assembly was in Brazil to strengthen cultural and commercial ties with local authorities and institutions.
