At the invitation of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Rio de Janeiro, the President of the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association, Henrique da Nóbrega, took part in an event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory in World War II — a milestone that also celebrates the heroic resistance of the Chinese people against the Japanese invasion.
In his speech, Henrique da Nóbrega highlighted the advances and setbacks that have taken place over the past eight decades. He emphasized that, despite the achievements of the post-war period, such as the creation of multilateral institutions and the progress of science and technology, the world today shows signs of regression, evidenced by wars, hunger, and the persecution of minorities and immigrants.
In this context, he underlined the relevance of the roles played by Brazil and China on the international stage: China, consolidated as a global economic power, and Brazil, among the world’s largest food producers. According to him, it is up to these two nations to strengthen multilateral institutions, combat disinformation, and redirect resources toward initiatives that concretely promote peace — such as ensuring food on the table, clean water, schools, and hospitals.
The meeting was attended by the Consul General of China in Rio de Janeiro, Sra. Tian Min, as well as business leaders such as Zheng Xiamao, president of the Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce of China, and Wang Minghao, manager of the Bank of Communications branch in Brazil. Among the Brazilian guests, in attendance were Cláudia Jannuzzi, from the Secretariat of Economic Development, and the professor from UFF Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, author of the work , author of the book China: Tradition and Modernity in the Governance of the Country..
Concluding his speech, Henrique da Nóbrega left a message of hope and cooperation:
"May we bequeath to future generations not the echo of weapons, but the strength of dialogue; not fabricated phantoms, but the real and transformative encounter between peoples and cultures."
